What follows is a brief summary of our Practice Areas and how some of these capabilities apply.

    Health and Human Services

In an era of concern for influenza pandemics and terrorism, the U.S. must be ready to continue essential operations when confronted with all forms of man-made or naturally occurring disasters. Any compromise of essential public services for an extended period of time could cause catastrophic personal and economic losses that could negatively impact the nation's well being as well as that of its diverse state and local jurisdictions.

Consequently, the distinct levels of government (e.g. Federal, State, and local), business and industry, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and citizen groups all have a stake in public health preparedness and the continuity of vital human services. It is therefore critical to recognize that each entity has its own focus, unique mission and responsibility, varied resources and capabilities, and operating procedures and principles, and that each will have its own definition of a disaster and/or public health emergency.

IWA offers public health, public safety and human services subject matter experts who can help clients crystallize their preparedness and response strategies, and construct plans and approaches that holistically take into account the psychological health and wellness needs of both victims and Responders, requirements for coordinated medical intelligence and decision-making, and culturally sensitive and appropriate outreach to priority and traditionally hard-to-reach populations.

    Health Information Technology

Whether public or private in nature, business is an environment increasingly burdened by demand for constituent services that are ubiquitously available, ensure data integrity and information security, and mirror the transaction speeds citizens have come to expect in our net-centric world. Often, a change in organizational culture and realignment of business processes are needed to achieve those critical objectives as much, if not more, as the introduction of enabling technologies may be.

    Military and Veterans Health Programs

The toll on American military personnel of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan has been, and continues to be, well-documented. As outcomes, many Warriors in Transition suffer from physical and psychological impairments that range from loss of limbs to traumatic brain injury (TBI), anxiety, alcohol and substance abuse, domestic violence, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and suicide. Ensuring that transitioning veterans receive the optimal care and ancillary services that will enable them to positively rejoin families and society at-large is of paramount concern to everyone in the U.S. Therefore, the vision, implementation strategy, tactical processes, services and support requirements driving military health programs must be consistently aligned, and regularly assessed for their realism and effectiveness.

    Policy and Program Analysis

In both business and government, there frequently is a need to abide by corporate or legislative mandates. This is particularly true in an era of concerns over breaches in information integrity and security, identity theft, or confusion regarding the reach of legislative policy where the associated impacts could result in civil and monetary penalties for a violation of the rules. IWA has extensive experience in helping clients interpret public policy, assess their level of conformance, and construct practical implementation and compliance plans.
